This weekend I was blessed to participate in the 23rd annual black history program at Bethel SDA Church in Kansas City, KS. As a member of the Beacon Light SDA Church choir, we sang two spiritual songs.
I was really blessed by the experience and look forward to singing more praises to God with this group. Becoming a member of the Beacon Light SDA Adult Choir has been a blessing in many ways. For the first time since I gave birth to Catherine, I was able to use my talent and gift.
At one time in my life, music was very important to me. I even studied music at the collegiate level. I love music and have a passion for choral music. However, after I had Catherine, my involvement in church and musical endeavors have been none existent.
I must admit that I have struggled with finding balance between motherhood and taking time for myself. As a stay-at-home mom, it seems as if my entire world revolves around making sure Catherine and my family are happy, healthy, and safe.
After joining the choir last month, I not only have an outlet to use my talents, but I have scheduled me time. Every Friday night I look forward to going to choir rehearsal . I can't wait to see all of my friends and sing beautiful music.I also think it is good for Catherine. She is able to spend some alone time with her father. It is a win for the entire family.
If you are a parent, how do you find balance? What do you do for you? How do you balance family and church involvement?

Beautiful music! I'm happy that you've found a bit of balance to do what you really enjoy. I'm sure it's nice to have a mental break, and also hang out with other mom's/friends for a little bit.
ReplyDeleteMy baby daddy may have left me, but fortunately is still in Dominic's life and he sees him twice a week and every other weekend, so I do get to still go out and do things/get things done.
Dominic and I were going to a church for awhile, but it for whatever reason wasn't meshing for me, so I'm still on the lookout for a good church home. Maybe I over think things, but I didn't feel comfortable where we were at.
Random side note- you only live 3 hours away from Dominic and I. We stay in Omaha, Nebraska. <3
Emily, I'll be praying you can find a church home. I know it's important to find a place you feel comfortable.
ReplyDeleteFinding a balance has been difficult for me. My husband and I rarely have alone time because we don't have much family here. As Catherine is getting older and more independent, I am confident we will be able to take more time for ourselves.
It's great we live so close. Maybe when the weather is warmer we can meet up. I have never been to Nebraska, but I have heard Omaha has a great zoo!
The zoo here is awesome! If you guys are ever up this way let me know (and I will vise versa). It's been awhile since I've been to Kansas City, at least a couple years. I really enjoy the art museum there and the Plaza shopping center.
